The Voice of an Iranian American
Here is a great video that shows how the Iran war is being sold in almost the exact same way as the Iraq war was sold to us. Take a look…
(or watch it here)
The Bush News Network (also known as Fox News) has a new story about Iranian Textbooks teaching hatred for US and Israel. Quoting Iranian textbooks Fox says a war with the US is unavoidable. Watch the video and notice the ending “lets check back to see where we are in a couple of months on it.” More war marketing? Yep!
Marketing a war is not unlike marketing any other product. First, you need a plan to build grassroots support. Then you follow-up with a multi-pronged marketing strategy to build off of the grass-root efforts.
You have undoubtedly heard about Iran’s harassment of US Navy ships in the Persian Gulf. The Pentagon released 2 videos of the incident. The second included a direct threat in a bogus accent that claimed the US Navy ships would blow up. The Navy Capitans took this threat so seriously that they did nothing. That’s right. A US Navy ship got a direct threat from what they’d like us to believe was 5 Iranian Revolutionary Guard speedboats and they simply did nothing. Nothing, except try to use the blown-up and potentially partly falsified incident as part of War Marketing.
In the past few months, the US has done the following war-marketing grassroots efforts:
The Iran War Marketing is on an accelerated timeline. First, they add the IRG, essentially a military component of a sovereign nation, to list of terrorist organizations. An unprecedented event. Then, they warn that this reckless terrorist group has taken over operations of monitoring the Persian Gulf from the Iranian Navy. Then, the same group, which identifies itself as “Iranian Navy,” is responsible for harassment and direct threat against US Naval ships.
Except, the bullshit doesn’t stick on #3. The incident is eerily similar to the Gulf of Tonkin incident (a made-up naval incident with Vietnam) that helped build the case to go into war with Vietnam. Without any legs to stand on, the Pentagon immediately backed away from the claim that the threat “You will blow up in a few minutes” was from the Iranians. Now, they admit, they have no clue. It could have been another officer on the Naval ship playing a prank.
What’s amazing about this stuff is that it’s not the major news networks like CNN, Fox or ABC that call this administration’s bullshit. It’s individual bloggers and civilians who are paying attention.
Here are some videos regarding the incidents:
In November, US Warns of an Iranian threat that the IRG has taken control of Iranian operations in the Persian Gulf:
Assuming this transition of “monitoring the gulf” went from the Iranian Navy to the IRG, the real question here should be “so what?” How is this threatening to the US Naval fleet? The only way this news conference makes any sense is when you combine it with the recent event about the IRG boats harassing Naval ships. It’s the execution of a war marketing plan!
Less than 2 months after the above event, we have this event:
It’s been more than 4 years since the non-existence of Weapons of Mass Destruction got us into a war. Like the Olympics and World Cup, the Bush administration wants to make this a regular occurrence. So with a new slogan of “War Ever 4″ the Bush administration is marching ahead with the drumbeats to start another unjust preemptive war, this time with Iran.
Except there’s one major hurdle. The United States intelligence community, which largely got the blame for making the wrong call on WMDs in Iraq, doesn’t want to get the same blame on Iran. So despite the administration’s insistence that Iran is actively working to acquire nuclear weapons, the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) which comprises of 16 different US intelligence agencies put out a report last month that Iran terminated their Nuclear Weapons program back in 2003.
This, of course, has not stopped the Bush administration from marching forward with their agenda on Iran. However, Keith Olbermann from MSNBC calls Bush out in the most methodical way for the string of lies. This video is definitely worth watching:
It’s always hard to know where to start when you’re telling one of the most important stories ever told. Seven years ago, we elected a president who was supposed to unite America and shortly after his term began, the events of 9/11 did just that. America was truly united. In fact, for the first time in recent history, the world was united. United against injustice and united behind the world’s greatest nation.
Fast forward 6 years and we’ve blown it. Not only is America more hated today in the International community than it ever has been, but the possibility of new wars, both big and small, are becoming increasingly more likely. It didn’t have to be this way, but we have a reckless administration in office who insisted, against the advice of many experts, to make it this way.
I have had enough of this administration. I’m extremely excited that there’s only 12 months remaining before the real injustice will end and we will begin a new chapter in this great country’s history. 2008 is an election year that gives us the opportunity to once again reclaim our government and let the politicians know that they must represent us, the American people.
